Spectrum Settlement Recovery, the leader in class action fund recovery, announced today that the deadline for redeeming corporate vouchers in the 2003 Microsoft California class action settlement will be extended, pending court approval of a request that was jointly submitted by the parties. Spectrum, working with Lead Counsel for the case, requested the extension to allow corporate class members additional time to submit their vouchers. The deadline for voucher redemption for individual, non business claimants will not be extended, and those vouchers must be redeemed by September 16, 2010.
“We’re pleased that Microsoft seems willing to do the right thing”, stated Howard Yellen, Chairman of Spectrum. “The settlement called for four years for voucher redemption, but because of various delays, some class members didn’t even receive their vouchers until 2009. Without this extension some class members would have had less than one year to submit the necessary paperwork to recover their funds”.
The suit alleged that Microsoft violated California’s antitrust and unfair competition laws by overcharging for desktop software including Windows, MS-DOS, Word, Excel and Office. Microsoft settled the case and agreed to issue up to $1.1 billion in technology vouchers which can be redeemed with the purchase of almost any type of desktop or laptop hardware or software, and importantly – not limited to Microsoft products. In fact, even Apple iPads meet the redemption criteria.
